After I sketched out the image in pencil, I started laying on thin washes of color.
Next I began layering the snow colors, I knew I wanted the snow to have a lot of violet tones.
I continue to add layers of color, refining them by tightening up edges and creating smoother texture. I added some yellow to the snow in the foreground so that it would stand out from the background.
The colors get darker, and I start to draw in the background figures. Still layering the shades of snow; adding white over the violet and yellow washes I've already put down.
Then I add surface details, like highlights on the cat's vest, and outlines on the figures.
Next I added snow on the tree, more details to the figures, and drew in the snowballs. I gave the image a blue border and I'm all finished!
